Hand altered giclèe print with acrylic, ink, pencil and collage - 104cm x 74cm framed

Calamus 18 Revisited takes inspiration from the line, “City of my walks and joys” found in Walt Whitman’s The Calamus Poems” - a nod to his past love of Manhattan and all that it offered. For me, Calamus 18 offered a way of combining old work with a new approach. I embedded bits and collections from boxes, drawers, and old envelopes to bring freshness to my art making.

My practice is influenced by stories, conversations, travel, landscape and urban activity. I use these encounters to present personal works on canvas, paper and board.

The public is meant to critique, consider, discuss, enjoy and view my work up close - preferably in a gallery space or studio setting. During the time of Covid-19, I was compelled to reconsider notions of how my art is to be encountered. Viewing Art online forced me to better understand or perhaps re-examine my meaning and purpose for making my art.
