Ulises Resendiz is a symbolic/surreal artist from Mexico, now based in St. Kilda, Melbourne. “I experiment with bright colours juxtaposing confronting ideas, sad and happy subjects mixed together with impossible things. Since I move to Australia I have been inspired by different symbols from both Mexico and Australia mixing animals, plants and other subjects.”

Ulises artworks are mostly watercolours and acrylic paintings and paper mache and fabric sculptures.

The Alebrijes are imaginary creatures that have elements from different animals such as dragon bodies, bat wings, wolf teeth and dog eyes. Colorfully painted, they were originally made with papier mache but nowadays they are also wood carved.

Mexican alebrijes are made of paper mache and wood, on this piece, I wanted to add a different medium: the fabric, to add texture, fur/skin like to my creature; I cut every single piece of the fabric details of this sculpture. I also added a human like face, which is never in this Mexican artistry.
